Hey guys, Sam here, v4.2 was released recently, here is a small summary of what is in it.

What's new in v4.2

New Mystery Gift Pokemon -Magnemite and it's evolution Magneton!
17 new moves added to the game.
New Pokemon Evolutions (1) - Magneton.
New TMs
  • Iron Tail
  • Stone Edge
Fixes:
  • Added Aerial Ace to Scyther's TM List
  • Pikachu can now learn and relearn Thunder at level 50
  • Game Corner now takes 5 coins to play, you only get 50 turns, but you win x10 more coins on each prize (80, 150, 1000, 3000) - This change was made to alleviate the server from too many request. Since you only get 50 turns instead of 100.
Where can I play?
Top 10 Forum Questions of the Week:

I talked last week about our community forums merging and adding some new features. One of the features is that every week the forum moderators will gather 10 questions that they want to ask me or Dan and we answer them each week. So here are the questions and answers.

1) xplay10: In the most recent level, "Celadon City", Celebi has mentioned that Mewtwo's triumph will end and won't be coming back for the sequels to come, along with Joey. Do you plan on having Pokemon like Mewtwo in terms of strength become the main villains for the upcoming sequels? If so, will they be shown in PTD following the main storyline?

I haven't decided if I will make a sequel yet, but if I did I would definitely have a strong main villain in the game that compares to Mewtwo. If I do make a sequel it would be a different game so PTD will stop once it reaches it's last level. You won't see the next villain on PTD.

2) Muncho11/Budgetspaner: What is the chance of actually finding a legendary beast (Suicune, Raikou, Entei) in the wild? And will we be able to catch multiple legendaries (Zapdos, Moltres, Articuno, Mewtwo), or will it be only one per profile?

I get asked this question about once per day lol. I'm not revealing the exact encounter rate of the Legendary Beast since it can lead to hacking. I'm still deciding on the second part of this question. But I would think that you can't get more than one of each of those per profile. (Unless you trade)

3) blastoise 889: What is your favorite Pokemon?

I have a soft spot for Bulbasaur, since he was my first pokemon. I also like Poliwag, which happens to be the first created pokemon.

4) Trainer Red: Where do you get your inspiration for PTD and what was your first acquaintance with Pokemon?

I've always liked Pokemon since I first saw it on a comic on the Nintendo Power Magazine. I bought the game before it became insanely popular in the States and I've really liked it since but I haven't liked how they have continued to make the same game over and over. I got inspired to make PTD when I noticed a bunch of other Pokemon Apps on the Android Marketplace. I figured I would make a Pokedex or a virtual pet simulator. As I was making the simulator I noticed that I might as well do something more enjoyable. So I saw that the highest grossing android game at the time was a tower defense. Immediately I thought about capturing your enemy and using them as towers.

5) almostpro: Do you plan on changing Pokemon adoption prices? (10 for a starter seems high because all other non-legendary are 5 at most. People would rather buy new game corner Pokemon than starters. I believe there should be a clearer distinction between Pokemon in terms of trade value and I believe dogs and Mews should be different in price as well.)

There is a possibility that the prices might change in the future, but it's not in my plans at this time.

6) gogogogo99: Will you ever let new PTD players get the past mystery gift avatars?

I'll find ways to re introduce the past avatars, without boring the people that already have them.

7) ZKS: Have you ever considered buying your own server? (As an accountant, I see how much my company spends on them. They don't have a massive start up cost, especially since our data is relatively small and upkeep is negligible)

I do have a host that I pay monthly for the server that hold the Pokemon Center, I think the game corner really slowed everything down, but now with the change on it I hope it will help the issue.

8) KimmyLube: Real world question - outside of PTD, what exactly is your real world job?

Outside of PTD, I'm a programmer, I work remotely from home. Hopefully soon I will be able to leave the job and focus completely on Sam and Dan Games.

9) Link: How do you think the cooperation with S&D Central will continue? Do you have any ideas for future cooperation plans?
I think think the cooperation between us and the Forums can only get better from now. I don't have anything specific but I'm sure we can work on some contest :)

10) PokeFan Gen. 1: Since the safari zone will be coming within the next month or so I was wondering will the level layout be similar to Rock Tunnel? With multiple rooms (zones) where you catch certain Pokemon? I feel like safari zone is such a key section it may take two weeks to actually put it together

Yeah the Safari Zone is a big deal, a lot of new pokemon will show up there. Right now I'm thinking of an idea for it that not everybody will get every pokemon but that each profile will get it's own pokemon out of a list. This is to encourage more trading. I also like the idea that your profile is unique from another. The layout itself might be similar to Rock Tunnel or it might be something new.

Well that was fun! Head to the forums if you want to submit your question and have them posted next week.

About Scams:

I want to talk about something that I have been receiving some emails about. I've been receive a lot of emails about people being Scammed. I know that Scams are a terrible thing, but it's one of the things that I really can't stop since most scams aren't doing anything illegal. So here are some tips to protect yourself.
  • If the person wants more than 6 pokemon, avoid the trade unless you personally know this person is trustworthy.
  • Do all trades through the Trading Center's system. Use the request feature that way you know that what you are getting is what it's supposed to be.
  • If the pokemon's picture doesn't show up on the Trading Center then that pokemon is not what it seems to be, do not trade for this pokemon.
I hope that those simple tips can help somebody out there from being Scammed. I can't really help you with scams cause there is really no proof of it happening. For all I know you are trying to scam me!

The game will pick the lowest one out of those two and that will be your recoil damage.

      • Rock Tomb
      • Rest
      • DynamicPunch
      • Rollout
      • Roar
      • Sweet Scent
      • Protect
      • Rain Dance
    • New Relearn Move:
      • Nasty Plot
        Flamethrower animation in progress
          • New additions
            • For all those asking for a mute button. Instead of an Exit button there is now a Menu Button on the level that will let you change the audio settings right from the level, and also change if you wish to see the damage numbers among other things.
            • Added a damage number feature, whenever you do damage to an enemy the amount of damage you did will show up above the enemy. Black text means the attack was normal, orange will be for super effective and dark gray will be for ineffective attacks.
            • Added an experience number feature, whenever you get experience the amount will show up on top of your pokemon.(Thanks for reminding me Darren)
            • Changing most damaging attack cooldowns down to 18 but reducing their attack power. This will result in some moves hitting for less but hitting more frequently.
              • Example: Flame burst: Old Cooldown: 54 - New Cooldown: 18 and Old Attack Power: 70 - New Attack Power: 40
            • Re balancing the attack power of all moves so some of the weaker moves (Absorb) are more in line with everything else, some of the stronger moves will have their attack power lowered so that all the moves aren't drastically separate in attack power.
              • Example: Absorb: Old Attack Power: 20 - New Attack Power: 40.
              • Example: Drill Peck: Old Attack Power: 80 - New Attack Power: 70
            • Changed Poison Powder and Toxic Spikes to "badly" poison the target, meaning it will do double damage.
                • Bugs
                  • When you exit out of a story level it will take you to the correct chapter page instead of the chapter select screen.
                  • Fixed issue with not losing a level when all the candy is taken.
                  • Rock Blast was hitting for an extra hit, this is now fixed. Example: It would hit 6 times instead of 5,  or 5 times when it only got 4.
                  • Pokemon on Vermillion City now have a more balanced defense, this will make moves like Aqua Tail hit for more on Fire and Ground types and Water Pulse hit for less. Instead of having x4 Physical Defense they will have x2 Physical Defense and x2Special Defense. Overall it should make the level a little harder.
                  • Pay Day will now only give 10 extra poke dollars per hit.
                  • Fixed issue with using healing moves while defending.
                  • Fixed Graphical issue with the move Endeavor.
                  • You can now view more than 20 TMs for a pokemon.
This won't be the only thing coming to the update, so keep coming back to see what else will be added.

Enjoy and tell me what you think.

Pokemon Tower Defense: What's next? Doing the impossible. How to get your Mystery Gift code. You guys are correct.

Hey guys, I've been reading pretty much all the comments, haven't had the chance to really answer anything. Each week it gets harder and harder to answer all the great and not so great questions. I plan to put up an FAQ with answers to most of the questions you guys have.

I don't really need to wait for the poll to be over to know that level 8 needs to be toned down, but for those of you that liked the challenge you don't have to worry the level will show up as a challenge mode level.

Speaking of challenge mode, beating a challenge mode level for the first time will be how you get a mystery code, each level will give out it's own mystery code.

Now to talk about the next update.

Shiny versions of all current wild and catchable pokemon!
                  Challenge Mode Levels!
                  Level cap raised to..........

I want to raise the level cap to 40 but I don't know if I will make it in time so I will be posting a list of what needs to be done to get there, I might make it to 30 or maybe 22 who knows, maybe I will reach this impossible goal.

                  Challenge Level (75%)

                  Level 25 Reached!
                  27 New Moves (100% done)
                  5 New Evolutions (100% done)

Shiny Pidgey added, 0.01% for it to show up when a pidgey shows up.
Shiny Geodude added, 0.01% for it to show up when a geodude shows up (Mt. Moon).

There might not be a new level this week... I really want to get the cap up as much as possible to try to push the game towards a more completed stage so that levels can be done quicker.

Also I wanted to talk about the bugs that people had mentioned and what's my priority right now.

                  1. Making Storage work. Storage now has different boxes that you can store 21 pokemon on each box.
                  2. Fixing the bug that makes the enemy stop moving. Thanks for all the info!
                  3. Fixing Geodudes attacks.
                  4. The password field on the Save Profile Online page will now hide your password as your type it.
                  5. Added two rare candies to Viridian Forest 1 making the total 5. This will make it easier for new players to beat the level.
                  6. Storage pokemon now have their levels displayed.
                  7. You can now save a new profile using the same email and password as before, thus overriding the original one.
                  8. When playing from a website, exe, or swf, when dragged, the pokeball and pokemon will be centered directly on your mouse cursor.
                  9. The game will now remember your sound settings.
                  10. The disclaimer at the start of the game will only show up once.
                  11. On Level 1, Professor Oak will only tell you how to play once, if you go into checking a pokemon and return to the party screen he won't show up again.
                  12. In the pokemart fixed an issue that you could continue to buy a stone on the "thanks for buying" and "you don't have enough money" screens. Thanks Keyser!

Also if you don't play on the websites I mentioned before on the previous blog, please consider playing on one of them because I don't plan to send updates to 20 different sites.

As always let me know what you think! Until next time.

Pokemon Tower Defense: This week's update: Progress List

It's that time again. Here I will list out all my current objectives for this week. The main one is the pokemart! A new story level, (you can actually lose!) and some new pokemon. This week we are heading to Mt. Moon and meeting up with Brock. The sad news is that there will be no level cap increase, but I promise you all that next week the cap will increase ( I think).

                  Level 8 (Mt. Moon):

                  Intro (100% done)
                  Actual Level (100% done)
                  Ending (100% done)

New Pokemon (5) with New Moves (16) (100% done)
New Evolutions (5) with Evolution Stone(100% done)
Shiny Pikachu & Raichu (100% done) (Really low chance of him showing up, prize for different small contest)

The poll results for what you guys wanted to be done first are in! 14126 votes!
Pokemart got 46%, Shiny Wild Pokemon got 34%, and a Challenge Mode level got 19%!
Pokemart is the winner, but you can't have a pokemart without an inventory so that is coming out also.

                  Pokemart (100% done)

Small change in plan, there won't be an inventory screen, for now you can use the items on the pokemon's profile page (You get to it by clicking on the pokemon when selecting your party, then clicking on "Use Item")

Bugs/Fixes:(These are the ones I have finished, I'll be adding more as I get them done)
                  1. Pidgey should now appear on route 3. (This is why some spearow had pidgeys moves)
                  2. Pokemon in Viridian Forest 2 will give out more money to compensate how difficult they are.
                  3. Metapod in Viridian Forest 2 were missing an attack, so I made sure that they have it now.
                  4. Removing a pokemon that is currently in your party will now remove it correctly.
                  5. For Marketplace app users, you will only need to put the code once, then you won't ever need to put it, it will go straight to the game.
                  6. For app users, the game will no longer keep your screen on when you exit the game.
                  7. Your pokemon "towers" will now animate.
                  8. Added Nintendo/Game Freak copyright and trademark acknowledgments.
                  9. Added more room to the bottom of the level on Brock's Gym, to make it easier to select pokemon on the bottom row.

As the week goes on I will be updating this post quite a bit. So stay tuned. As always let me know what you think :)

PTD: What's next? A list of new things...and we just keep growing!

SAD UPDATE: App was suspended from Marketplace....The good news is I will be moving it to the web a lot quicker! I will provide you with a link soon, once the update is done.

UPDATE: Level cap increasing to 20, tonight (Wednesday)! Level 6 will come in an update after that but this week also.

This game just keeps growing and it's thanks to all of you, I haven't done any advertisement at all. The download stats from my Android Market Developer Console updated today at we have over 66,000 downloads! You guys made it happen, either you told your friend about it, or you twittered it, facebook, blogged on it. I just wanted to say thank you for the support! Also even if you didn't do any of the above, just giving it a good rating and a good comment goes a long way into other people deciding if they want to play.

Okay so lets get down to business.

First, the poll is finally closed (I need to make the next one shorter) and you have all decided that the current app icon stays! We had 1955 votes and 19% said hey it doesn't matter to me, 36% said change that sucker, but 44% said don't even think about touching the bulbasaur. So Bulba is here to stay. I will be adding a new poll very soon.

Now I want to talk about the next couple of updates. The level cap will be increasing to 20, so you can finally evolve more of your pokemon, and earn new moves for battles. So what I want to do is make a list here of what I need to do and how far I'm into doing it so that you guys can stay up to date on my progress towards the next update. If you see anything that is missing on the list that you think should be there just drop me a comment here on the blog or email me directly. Thanks.

Level 4 on Pokemon Tower Defense UPDATE

I must say that I am sorry about the confusion, level 4 is not completed yet, I'm going to make a small update that will make that more clear on the game, again sorry about that, I plan to have it done within a week so stay tuned. I guess while I'm here I'll also mention that the pokemon leveling is capped at level 10 for now, this cap will go up when level 6 of the game comes out. Thanks again for the great feedback! Keep it coming :D

I responded to the previous blog post in the comments here is my response:

"Thanks for the feedback guys, now time to answer some questions.

@Kevin, Bradly, Michelle, Ben - I posted a new blog entry about it, but your phones are not the problem the problem is that I haven't completed level 4, it will be coming in about a week, also evolving is implemented but since the level cap is at 10 only 2 pokemon can evolve right now (caterpie and weedle).

@Anonymous - Thanks, the reason I released it without finishing it is that it's going to take a good amount of time to get everything I want in there, so I rather people can start getting a taste of it and giving me their feedback so that I can make it better in the end."
